“Softly as I Leave You: Life After Elvis” is Priscilla Presley’s new memoir, released on September 23. In the book, she commented on Nicolas Cage’s tumultuous relationship with her daughter Lisa Marie Presley.
Priscilla recalls that Cage, now 61, proposed to her daughter with “a six-carat diamond ring valued at $65,000,” noting that “it was dazzling, but it didn’t last long.”
“One afternoon, they went sailing off the coast of Catalina Island on Nic’s yacht, the Weston. Something sparked yet another of their epic arguments, and Lisa took off the engagement ring and threw it at Nic. Furious, Nic threw the ring into the sea,” she said.
She recounts that the “Valley Girl” actor regretted his action and hired divers to look for the lost ring. “As far as I know, the ring is still there,” Priscilla said, adding that two days later he bought Lisa a bigger one.
“They would scream and yell, throw things and sometimes break things. They would break up. And the next day, or soon after, they would get back together,” she wrote. “Lisa and Nic broke up and reconciled so many times it could make anyone dizzy.”
Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie married in Hawaii on August 10, 2002, but three months later the actor filed for divorce. He married Alice Kim two months after finalizing his divorce from Lisa.
